As spring migrant time is more or less upon us the competition and the competitive streaks amongst the 6 of us has turned all of us into Valley bashers. In my case and probably a few of the others, gone are the regular visits to Rainham and such like, the Valley is being thoroughly flogged and has produced the best starts for all of us regulars.

List of Birds seen walking from the house. Saturday, July 25, 2015. A mid-day walk round the usual South Sawbo. It was quiet, possibly due to the prolonged deluge yesterday. Of bird note were c20 Stock Doves. That were both seen over a field; the tern coming from distance and the kingfisher cutting a corner. Common name either Hill Cuckoo Bee. So what of the host? The Red-Tailed Bumble Bee. Tuesday, July 14, 2015.

Today was the first of a week full of forecast freezing weather and snow. It was a stunning, sunny, but cold day. East Copse on Wanstead Flats. Despite the cold, Spring seemed to be in the air for the Canada Goose. As always with mating anatidae, it was a typically scrappy affair. That was until I found my own flock! Passed over and this t.

Sunday, 4 February 2018. The first weekend in February saw most of the Valley Birders bashing the patch for a few hours; some early morning pre the dog walkers and others like myself early after noon. There was a light drizzle of rain in the air all times. I met up with Monkey just after 12 and we both headed to the viewing area to tick off the Shelduck that had been there all morning. I added Bullfinch, Shelduck, Lesser Redpoll, Peregrin,.

North Downs and beyond

Wednesday, 11 April 2018. A visit next week seems to be on the cards. My recent April visits have been a little disappointing, with very few migrants, chill winds and much frantic bush-bashing, although the flora is always there to admire and Andrena vega. Monday, 9 April 2018.

The Barley Birder

Sunday, 9 August 2015. A Short-eared Owl at Farlington Marshes in August! The water level on the lake was high and as such the high tide roost was not as I had hoped. There were 150 or so Common Redshank. The stream was not that much better with another 50 Black-tailed Godwits,. A dozen or so Lapwing. Black-tailed Godwit on the Stream Farlington Marshes.

Wanstead Birding

Usually skulky birds here on patch, except when they are singing, today one braved me crawling towards it on my knees. No sign of any flycatchers though, but that could be down to crawling on my knees too much. Plenty of Willow Warbler though frequenting the boggy bit of the SSSI. Tomorrow the weather looks absolutely crap. Brilliant! Wednesday, August 12, 2015. That news even brought Bob out of his house.

Jims Birding Blog

A morning at Dungeness NNR. Spent another enjoyable morning at Dungeness, starting with a visit to Hansen hide where we were told there was a Little Stint on one of the islands on Arc Pit. After a few scans it was picked out among a small group of Dunlin. Good numbers of Lapwing were also present. A good number of butterfly species were also on show this morning, Small Blue, Common Blue, Painted lady.

I leved there my first eigth years of my life, I have good memories. With my neibghoors we used to play hokey, soccer and football, we play with anything. I remember I had a pair of cowboy boots.
